Re: The Human Reignition Project
As of this writing, Human Reignition Project is 149% funded with three days left. I'm impressed. Perhaps it will reach another stretch goal. Frankly, I'm becoming somewhat disillusioned with the glorious inspirations that arose from the success of Katawa Shoujo. To be frank, I've wasted enough time ...

Re: Missing Stars stands alone
In other ways, I'm worried. With no further competition to unite the many workers of our dearly beloved and disturbingly quiet VN group, what will happen now? Truly, it seems, Missing Stars is the last real contender for the role of Spiritual Successor to the glory of Katawa Shoujo. Freeware and fa...

Re: post your favorite ost
As for video games, it's the music from Dragon Quest 7, original Playstation version. My favorite song on the playlist is track 11, "Memories of a Lost World."
Movie-wise, I'd say the Ladyhawke soundtrack, which keeps going back and forth from orchestral music to mid-80s synth.

Re: How long have you been following the project?
My previous post in this topic was almost a year and a half ago. At the time, I said my current favorite was Tears 9, 10 . Since then, I've started about four Windows visual novels, but stopped each one at a save point and never resumed it. However, I have spent quite a bit of time reading Sweet Fus...

Re: My interest in Anime....
I find that it's often wise to look at older series and movies, and then think about them. For instance, Hols, Prince of the Sun was created over forty years ago by several people who are now famous. It's interesting to watch it now after seeing a bunch of works that it inspired. The r/anime sub-Red...

Re: How did you guys find out about this project?
KS still holds the honour of the only visual novel I've genuinely enjoyed... You might benefit by asking other fans for suggestions on relevant forums. The TVTropes forum has a Visual Novels: Recommendations thread that's open to all users. It's also okay to ask on the sub-Reddit r/visualnovelsugge...

Re: Free games!
There was about a year of my life when I was fascinated with freeware games. I downloaded several that were similar to old favorite video games: LinCity, Freeciv, and Planet MULE. The first two sounded promising, but I had trouble getting them to work with my computer. The last one was enjoyable, th...

... granted that it's taking place in the Mediterranean area of Europe, do the character's appearances reflect this... Similar to the above, how do you plan on encorporating english into the project? I can't speak for the Missing Stars writers. But in my opinion, a good general rule for portraying ...

If the staff of Missing Stars are looking for background art, then be sure to ask for help. Find a reliable person on Deviant Art, or a relevant sub-Reddit such as r/gamedev or r/vndevs. Make sure you can trust them to finish the work, and make sure they can trust you. It's possible to find help on ...

Re: If you would write your own VN...
There's some categories of fiction which are relatively rare in visual novels. These include: * Gamebooks . If you think about it, they're conceptually identical to VNs, except that they exist as prose novels, and sometimes include illustrations. Let's think about convergence, and whether we want mo...

I've used the Visual Novel Random Idea Generator a few times, but the results can be a little too random. (Four tags for protag? Tags from clearly different genres? No way to filter NSFW?) So yeah, now that I've seen that dinosaur x girls image, let me see if I can use some VNDB tags for an idea tha...

Re: Blog Post: How To Be Hated on the Internet...
There are a few hundred games about zombies, space marines, and collectible monsters. People laugh about how common/similar they are all of the time. But they still sell squillions of copies in a large variety of nations. Creating a story about unusual topics is always risky. There's a good chance i...

Re: Death Note: Like or Dislike?
Read trade paperback #1, but never got around to the rest of the series. I watched from the sidelines as Death Note became popular among my fellow fans.
That said, I'm a huge fan of Hikaru no Go, the previous comic which Takeshi Obata illustrated. I have not yet read Blue Dragon Ral Grad, or Bakuman.

Re: Ask the Devs!
Thanks for following up. A few thoughts... I should have said something more specific than "unusual" ending. One that's absurd ("and then the sun blew up"), one that's unexpectedly violent (School Days style bad ending), one that's driven by twists (he was dead all along!), or one that's intentional...

Re: Manga anyone?
Bonnouji was a unexpected excellent find. Three volumes were written, and fans are currently translating the last book. I don't expect any company will license it. Unfortunately, only a few chapters of Hyouge Mono have been translated... and the series is 16 books long and still going. Consider wat...

Re: Ask the Devs!
A few really basic questions that I should have asked a while ago... * Missing Stars is set in Vienna. Have any of the creators been there, or lived there? * Story pacing: relatively slow or brisk? Will it vary depending on the scene? * Choice "spacing": Will long sections of the story go by with no...

Re: How long have you been following the project?
I joined the forum in September 2012 -- so at least a few months. Most of my VN forum activity has been on Lemma Soft, but I'm trying to be active elsewhere. I strive to support WVN creators, even though I'm insecure about my status as a fan. My current favorite VN is Tears 9, 10 (which is an iOS/An...

Re: What are your favorite western comics?
Elfquest was the one for me. A friend lent me a trade paperback, and I was immediately hooked. It showed me that there was a world beyond G-rated superheroes and newspaper comics. I stuck with the fandom for several years. Bone (by Jeff Smith) was better overall. Sure, I had some complaints about it...

Re: Other known VN [NSFW content]
If there's one VN which I want translated over all others, it would be Mitsumete Knight . Why is this? Let me list some reasons: 1. It's worksafe. The game was exclusive to the Playstation, and there was no 18+ computer game version. 2. It has lots of complex gameplay. Back in the '90s, there were m...

Re: Adult Content?
If the creators want to include on-screen sex scenes in Missing Stars, then that's fine, I guess. It's your game, do what you want. If you ask me, the story will be better if the sex scenes are not considered obligatory. If the narrative is just as good, or better, without explicit sex, then the adu...
